So Special - Music To Get Married By
You know how cartoons sometimes have characters hearing songs when the love of their life walks by? Harps and violins play, bells ring and all types of stuff goes on to convey just how smitten the character is.
These days, just call me Mr. Cartoon Network.
On the drive to work, the drive home from work, humming to myself, all day long its love songs. Its almost like my brain is steadily tuned into Cupid 219 on Sirius Satellite Radio. It’s not that odd, I love music and I’ve never been impervious to love songs. But its never been this bad.
Here’s the part of this wedding blog where it morphs into a music review. Today, I thought about the songs in my 30 CD rotation or so, including two albums I just recently bought. Gym Class Heroes’ “As Cruel As Schoolchildren,” and Sa-Ra’s debut “The Hollywood Recordings.” Both of the CD’s are solid all the way through, but the tracks that I find myself wanting to replay are both songs about falling in love or wanting to love somebody. GCH’s “New Friend Request” and Sa-Ra’s “So Special” both adopt themes of love’s strongest charateristic, anticipation.
It’s not the themes of meeting someone new, but the anticipation of a brand new life with my wife. The sweet suspense of making plans without knowing what’s next, but knowing that no matter what happens, we’ll be together. They say music is the universal language, and love is the universal law. The two go together perfectly, and reach an apex at weddings, anniversaries, and Valentines Day dances everywhere.
I haven’t reached the point of breaking out the LL Cool J anthology, but it’s getting pretty close. Call it getting softer, domesticated, or just that excited, but its all sweet music to my ears.
