Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?
They say that a wedding is a bride’s day, but as I get closer and closer to 07/07/07, I find myself more and more excited about my part in the whole scenario.
I’m not sure about other grooms, but I know that the greatest joy I have found from this process is seeing the excitement in my bride’s eyes. Sure, there’s been a lot of frustration mixed in with that, mostly stemming from her hands-and-feet-on approach, but mostly happy.
But I now realize that there is more recognition to being a groom than being the bride’s arm dressing. For example, everybody anticipates the moment when the bride begins her walk down the aisle. They look at her dress, hair, make-up, shoes, and jewelry. They ooh and ahh at how gorgeous she is.
But then the attention shifts to the groom that’s already been standing there sweating bullets. The only thing that could be just as important as how beautiful the bride is, is how the groom will react to how beautiful the bride is. Will he cry? Will he smile bigger than he ever has?
Or take the reception. Everyone remarks on how beautiful the flower arrangements are, the place settings and the whole ambiance, but the main attraction is the groom taking off the garter, and if he will smush cake in his bride’s face.
Gentlemen, you have a great deal to do with this day going off without a hitch. You should feel like a movie star, too. Besides, the photographer and videographer cost that much to make you look like one anyway, so you might as well act the part. Relish the attention and savor the moments.
Remember, next to this, it’s only Father’s Day for us. And we know how much love Father’s Day gets.
