Just Throw Some Hot Sauce On It

In a way, a marriage is like your favorite food. It’s a timeless classic that gets you by whether you are celebrating or commiserating. All you usually have to do is get up, get out, and go get some of the good stuff.

But you ever had the feeling of getting amped up to get your favorite food, only to have it in your hands and not really want it as much as you did? That’s when you have to throw some hot sauce on it. I don’t mean literally, particularly if your favorite food is some type of dessert. But every now and then you have to dress up the things that make your life more enjoyable.

If your favorite food is oatmeal, there are so many things that go with oatmeal you can’t possibly grow tired of it. Tired of raisins? Try apples. Tired of apples? Try peaches. Tired of peaches? Try bananas. But if you run out of fruits and spices to put in oatmeal and you still regret eating it, you may have to accept the realization that oatmeal isn’t your favorite food, and that can be tough.

Same thing with a relationship. If you always go out to restaurants, try a totally different kind of food. If you don’t like it, you can always hit up McDonald’s, except this time you’ll have a terrible restaurant to diss. Tired of movies? Check out a play. Tired of watching game shows? Watch porn.

Variety truly is the spice of life, particularly when its the mystery spice of the day. It doesn’t have to be breaking routine, but it can also be spontaneously starting new ones. If you always cook dinner, offer to clean up for a change. If you are always disciplining the children, laugh at them while your spouse does it. Life doesn’t have to be spicy all the time, but a little zing makes it worth coming back for seconds and thirds everyday.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go by some ingredients to surprise my wife by making Buffalo Wings. Wouldn’t you know it, we’re all out of hot sauce.
