See, the first thing I thought when I read the news about Jennifer Hudson being engaged to a dude from a reality show is, “Lord, let this child reconsider.” Having never watched the show, but knowing its basic premise, I guessed that Hudson would not have a life of happiness and fulfillment with a dude that was competing for the affection of a Flavor Flav castoff.
And then I looked up David Otunga’s picture.
You try not to be judgmental when it comes to Hollywood relationships, but there’s nothing about this cat that says, “commitment.” No, I don’t know the guy and I would assume no one really does, but he’s created a look and a public persona that screams the exact opposite of what I assume, a woman would want out of a life partner.
They’ve been dating less than a year, which I can’t hate on because I got engaged in less than a year. But I don’t walk around looking like I want to do curls every ten minutes or looking like Al B. Sure 2.0. I would freely admit if I was just being jealous, but it’s not even that. It’s more about is this guy, and this future husband and wife tandem, ready for the triumphs and tribulations of marriage?
Jennifer Hudson’s career is burgenoing, his appears to be going nowhere. She is beloved by a lot of people, he appears to be beloved by mirrors everywhere. Perhaps they are truly down for each other and will make a happy and fulfilling life together, but on face value, it has all the look of Star Jones-Al Reynolds Part Deux.
