60 Days to Heaven

Life and happiness have been completely redefined for me. Everything that I thought I knew about being content, being in love, and being responsible are all out of the window.

Another life is growing as we speak. Because of me and my wife. My wife has the incredible joy and burden of nurturing this life to birth. What an incredible and beautiful woman she is to allow me the opportunity to be a father, in addition to being her husband.

You think that you know what you want out of life when you its just you, but then you find a person that renders all of that obsolete with feelings of love and partnership. And just when you think you’ve found a way to negotiate the ease and work of marriage, you discover that there’s another component to the family thing. The real reason behind finding a soul mate.

To create another life.

I notice that I drive a lot slower now. My wife, whom I already admired more than any other person I’ve ever met, now strikes me as this other worldly being. I now know what it means when they say pregnant women glow, because its not some illuminating light that surrounds them. It’s a renewed softness in their smile, a sleepy look in their eyes, and a touch that is just the slightest bit gentler.

Perhaps it is practice for the little one. Maybe its because she loves me more than she knew that she could. In either case, “mother” will suit her so well.

As for the father, I wonder what I will impart to my child. Will I be a disciplinarian? Will I be a softy? Will I run as fast as I do now? Will I be blogging the whole time?

I know I’ll be around, that’s for sure. I’ll be a bunch of nerves, unable to contain my unconditional love for my wife and baby, but I’ll be around.
